Introduction

The Office of Research and Development (ORD) has overall managerial responsibility for NSYSU's academic research activities. It was named as Office of Research Affairs (ORA) since it established in 1996 and was renamed named as Office of Research and Development (ORD) in 2009. The ORD seeks to maintain a research environment that fosters creativity and collaboration. Its specific goals are to provide effective support for campus-wide research efforts, to advocate for research needs and resources, and to maximize the benefits of NSYSU's research to the community.

In support of these goals, ORD 

  • Proposes the five-year development plan for the university.

  • Is responsible for internal evaluations of departments, institutes and Research Centers.

  • Proposes and monitors the use of R&D capital expenditure and hardware infrastructure.

  • Integrates the resources in the university and launch special-task projects.

  • Is responsible for interpreting, negotiating, and accepting agreements for projects funded by government agencies, corporations, and other public and private sources.

  • Oversees campus compliance with government and university regulations pertaining to research. 

  • Provides administrative support and assistance for visiting scholars and post-doctoral programs. 

  • Provides financial support for research and academic exchange activities. 

  • Works with campus inventors to facilitate transfers of technologies created at NSYSU, 

There are three divisions in the ORD: Division of Projects Management , Division of Research Planning and Coordination and Division of Industry Collaboration.

 

Division of Projects Management

 

The mission of this division is to handle the administrative affairs associated with research projects sponsored by out-of-campus organizations. These research projects, based on the sources of sponsors, include two categories: the National Science Council (NSC) and the government sponsored projects. The activities include:

  • Administrate the National Science Council funded projects.

  • Manage the Government funded projects.

  • Supervise the use of research projects’ overhead expense and remainder.

  • Manage the research project related daily-based workers affair.

  • Supporting high-price precision equipment and encourage resoure sharing.

  • Providing starting fund for young faculty numbers.

  • Awarding for SCI and SSCI papers.

  • Supporting international academic exchange and research collaborations.

Division of Research Planning 

 

The division supports college annual reviews and conducts statistical study of the university research performance and capacity. This division also makes strategic plans for promoting the research capacity of the university, and implements various programs to cultivate academic excellence. Major activities include: 

  • Creating Chair Professorship

  • Supporting international academic exchange and research collaborations

  • Strategic supporting of interdisciplinary research, and inter-campus research

  • Providing administrative support and assistance for visiting scholars and post-doctoral program

  • Awarding prices to teachers for outstanding performances on flexible salary.

Joint Center for High Valued Instruments, NSYSU

 

The Center was established in 1982 with funding support from the National Science Council (NSC) for instrument purchasing and operation in order to improve the research environment and to centralize high valued instruments for better efficiency. The Center offers sample testing for academic and research institutions, consulting service, and assistance in solving difficulties of quality control. The precision and expertise offered in each facility enable maximum efficiency for all types of special needs.

 

The Center currently offers 15 instruments for reservation. Each instrument is under the supervision of a professor and technician for consulting and assistance operation and is located within department, graduate institute, or center according to its characteristics. Interested individual or party can make reservation according to policy of the individual facility or of the NSC.
