Introduction 

The Office of Research Affairs (ORA) has overall managerial responsibility for NSYSU’s research activities. It seeks to maintain a research environment that fosters creativity and collaboration. Its specific goals are to provide effective support for campus-wide research efforts; to advocate for research needs and resources; and to maximize the benefits of NSYSU's research to the community.

In support of these goals, ORA 

  • Is responsible for interpreting, negotiating, and accepting agreements for projects funded by government agencies, corporations, and other public and private sources.

  • Oversees campus compliance with government and university regulations pertaining to research. 

  • Provides administrative support and assistance for visiting scholars and post-doctoral program. 

  • Provides financial supports for research and academic exchange activities. 

  • Works with campus inventors to facilitate transfers of technologies created at NSYSU, 

There are three divisions in the ORA: Division of Sponsored Projects, Division of Research Planning and Coordination and Division of Corporate Relations.

Division of Projects Management

The mission of this division is to handle the administration affairs associated with research projects sponsored by out-of-campus organizations. These research projects are classified according to sponsors mainly into two categories: the National Science Council (NSC) sponsored projects and the non-NSC sponsored projects.

Division of Research Planning 

This division supervises research centers and makes annual appraisal of their activities. It supports college annual reviews and conducts statistical study of the university research performance and capacity. This division also makes strategic plans for promoting the research capacity of the university, and implements various programs to cultivate academic excellence. Major activities include: 

  • Creating Chair Professorship

  • Sponsoring international and national conferences

  • Supporting international academic exchange and research collaborations

  • Strategic supporting of interdisciplinary research, and inter-campus research

  • Providing starting fund for young faculty members

  • Awarding prizes to distinguished researchers for high impact research papers

  • Supporting high-price precision equipment and encouraging resource sharing

  • Providing administrative support and assistance for visiting scholars and post-doctoral program

Division of Industry Collaboration

This division promotes the full range of research and technology relationships with industry. The scope and activities include:

  • Establish, nurture and maintain multifaceted relationships with companies. 

  • Enhance campus research activities through Intellectual Property (IP) management .

  • Facilitate and strengthen new types of agreements to reflect changing relationships with industry. 

  • Support economic development through technology and knowledge transfer. 

  • Evaluate the commercial potential of new technologies, including determining patentability, prosecuting patents, registering copyrights, marketing and licensing patents and tangible material, negotiating license agreements.

  • Receive and distribute royalties and other income to the inventors, the NSYSU campus and its departments. 

  • Provide service to industry with precision equipment.
